Listening to the Living Body

โ€œThere is one thing that when cultivated and regularly practiced leads to deep spiritual intention, to peace, to mindfulness and clear comprehension, to vision and knowledge, to a happy life here and now, and to the culmination of wisdom and awakening. And what is that one thing? Mindfulness centered on the body.โ€

–The Buddha

For the first (back2basics) Tuesday of next month we will be continuing our meander through the online Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation course offered by IMC. This online course is supplemented with written material, exercises, and reflections for bringing the practice into daily life. The course is not live, so it can be done any time during the day.

This week we will be moving on to Week 2: Body.

The schedule is:

6:00 – 6:30 sitting
6:30 – 7:15 discussion
7:15 – 7:30 sitting

The sitting takes place at BIBS.

Tuesday, December 22nd

Next Tuesday (12/22) we will have an evening practice of metta, led by Kathleen ๐Ÿ™‚ This link is a dharma talk from Sharon Salzberg to a group beginning a metta retreat. She points out that the Buddha first taught metta as an antidote to fear. Seems like a timely message.

There are also many many talks and series on Audio Dharma podcast.

Friday, Saturday and the 3rd Tuesday in December

To celebrate Bodhi Day/Rohatsu we will be expanding our Saturday half-day sitting into Friday night, so come and celebrate Buddha’s enlightenment with us in silence, from 7pm to 9pm, and then come back for more of the dance between sitting and walking on Saturday morning, 9am to 12:30pm.

And then… Yet more, sitting and walking as we welcome the 3rd Tuesday of the month to Boise.

For all of these sitting and walking parties, we will start with the usual 30 minute periods and adapt as prompted by the weather.

Looking out even further, for the next back2basics Tuesday at the start of 2016 (January 5th) we will be continuing our run through the online Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation course offered by IMC. In the second week of this course, we will be expanding our exploration of mindfulness of our physical bodies from the breath to the whole body so perhaps we can keep that in mind for the rest of this month.

We meet at BIBS – location in the sidebar.

Tuesday, December 8th

We will be slightly late to the party, but next Tuesday we will be reflecting on our practice with Gratitude. This is a short talk by Gil (less than 4 minutes) on practicing with Gratitude.
