Firstly, on Friday there is a full day of sitting and walking meditation from 9-4 at BIBS with the same format of alternating periods of sitting and walking meditation as our 3rd Tuesday fun. The day will include periods of guided meditation and opportunities for private practice discussions for those interested.
Secondly, next Tuesday we’ll be looking at an embodied aspect of practice, receptive awareness, which we can study via a talk, or three, by Andrea Fella. This is a practice that she learnt from Sayadaw U Tejaniya. The talks are:
Receptive Awareness – Guided Meditation
Receptive Awareness – Discussion
Part of what we learn to do in practice is to steady our attention, to develop a simple, receptive awareness. We aren’t necessarily abandoning the world of ideas or even the idea of self. Instead, we learn to hold our lives, our ideas, and ourselves lightly. We rest in a spacious and compassionate sphere of awareness that knows but is not attached. In this way our response to life can arise from our direct experience rather than our abstract ideas and attachments. Gil Fronsdal
